Movement, Light, and Life
A Period Romance Short Film by Winston Stemler
Story
The year is 1889. In the countryside of France, a young Impressionist painter, Paul Lefay, is tasked by the Académie des Beaux-Arts to complete his first ever commission. Searching for a muse to inspire his greatest painting yet, Paul journeys to the local riverbank where he meets the radiant and consummately talented Annabelle Veilleux. There, on a beautiful summer morn, the root of their love takes hold...
Director’s Statement
The film derives its title from the three formal qualities that defined the movement of Impressionism. Taking inspiration from the lives of such painters as Renoir, Pissarro, and Monet, and 19th century romance novels as Pride & Prejudice, Movement, Light, and Life aims to capture the essence of a bygone era and to celebrate the transformative power of art. A film about artists by artists, the film is a tale of love, passion, and artistic inspiration.
